Busy weekend

I know it’s Easter, but this Sunday night my good friend Andy Akiho & I are returning to the Kennedy Center for an incredible program. With the help of the Mivos Quartet, we’ll present Andy’s works for marimba/steel pan and string quartet – including, of course, one of my favorite pieces in the whole world: LIgNEouS 1. Wooden mallets, rubber bands stretched across marimba bars, what more could you want?

Now, this show is on the Millennium Stage. That means that the Kennedy Center will be streaming it live for the whole world to see. In addition, they will archive the video of the performance on their website, so you can watch it any time you want! Here are the details:

Now, for those of you who don’t live near DC, we will be giving a special preview of this concert in Princeton, NJ on Saturday night. We’ve been doing these coffee shop shows ever since Andy has lived in Princeton and they are always a good time – informal, FREE and you never know who might show up.

Small World Coffee
14 Witherspoon Street, Princeton NJ
Saturday, March 30th @ 8:30pm
FREE - no tickets required

One more special event to share with you all. On Monday, I head up to Cornell University to play Alejandro Viñao’s Tumblers on Ariana Kim’s faculty recital. Alejandro is one of my favorite composers, but this is my first time playing Tumblers. It’s a crazy 16 minute roller-coaster ride for marimba, violin and electronics that is part classical contemporary music and part straight up rave dance party. Ariana has put together an incredible program blending acoustic and electro-acoustic works, and she’s a superb musician!

Cornell University, Barnes Recital Hall
129 Ho Plaza, Ithaca NY 14853
Monday, April 1st @ 8pm

Hope to see you this weekend!
